I've been playing Fallout 2, one of my favourite games of all time.
I thought I should document how I got the various mods I installed working, as the amount of faff was insane.
- Install Fallout 2 on Steam.
- Open its files and install the Fallout 2 Restoration Project - under Linux you'll need to create a bash script that converts all the files to lowercase for this to make the file replacements work! (The game won't mind, Windows games aren't case-sensitive.)
- Install Restoration Project - Companion Expansion including the old version of SFALL
- Install Maps Updated Patch for Companion Expansion
- Install the Talking Heads Addon
- Install the Talking Heads Actually Talk mod (Featuring me as K9 - I thought there'd be some voice effect added, to be honest)
- Install Maps Updated Patch - THAT
- Set the launch option parameters in Steam for Fallout 2 to
WINEDLLOVERRIDES='ddraw.dll=n,b' PROTON_LOG=1 %command% - Optionally, add ARVILLAGE.int to (Fallout 2 directory)/DATA/scripts/ to skip past the Temple of Trials
As I said, wildly involved. Several of the mods seem to have died too, so it's lucky I got to voice a cyborg dog when I did, I guess.
